David B Striar - Jazz Musician
I am a jazz pianist, composer and classically-trained singer and have been teaching piano for over 25 years. If you (or your child) are interested in learning piano (in any style) from a supportive teacher who strives to make lessons fun, interesting and comfortable please contact me through >>> pianomalous@gmail.com >>> 408-338-7591 With younger students especially, I try hard to make the lessons fun as well as educational with activities like original, (occasionally animated) music picture riddles and digital music games. I use lots of visual aids including picture cards and programs that teach the different note values, musical symbols and basic concepts.
I studied Composition with Alan Mandel, Voice with Anastasio Vrenios (AU) and Jazz Piano with Jon Ozment (U of M; AU George Mason...)
I feel that nurturing creativity is an important part of teaching the arts, and if the student is interested, I complement music reading and finger technique with composition and/or improvisation. In addition to learning traditional and/or Jazz repertoire, many of my students create their own compositions and learn to notate and print their music using digital software. I also use the latest music theory apps to enhance and complement our music studies.
I love working with students who use acoustic pianos, and employ a connection platform with excellent audio especially designed for music lessons. For those with electric keyboards I employ programs and equipment which allow us to take advantage of the latest in internet/keyboard technology. Experience the magic of remote playing which allows both student and teacher to play and be heard through each other’s keyboards while providing an animated virtual piano so you can see what is being played on your keyboard by the teacher as well as hear it. The age span of the children I teach runs from 5 on up and we have two recitals a year (winter/spring). References available upon request Do read some of my Testimonials
