Melodic Improvisation

We will learn various kinds of scales, major, harmonic
minor and the blues scales especially, and how to
determine where to use them.
We will work with Fake Book charts which are reductions of
scores that include only the melody and chord symbols, as
well as written out jazz arrangements that I have created or
which I like to use with my students.
We will learn how to analyze the tune harmonically in order
to determine the best scales and chord substitutes to use for
improvisation.
