Teacher’s note: “normals and abnormals” = Claire’s name for Majors & Minors!
"David, Just a "note" on Friday's lesson. Somehow you can bring out the musical stuff hidden in my brain. Thank you, as always, for your patience and persistence with teaching. This morning I was playing Stardust and Rich said "nice concert." I'm having a great time with this thanks to you. Piano lessons rule!! Thank you for being a great teacher.” M.G.
"Thank you for a wonderful recital. You are truly a master teacher.Such love, kindness, and patience with your pupils.I wish I had had you as a teacher when I was 8!” Jeremy Haft Adjunct Associate Professor Asian Studies Program Georgetown University
"David Striar is an accomplished piano instructor. He is patient, kind and caring. He uses positive reinforcement and makes the experience pressure free and enjoyable for the children. My daughter loves her lessons" Begona C.
"My daughter did not like learning classical piano, or the way piano is typically taught, but she wanted to learn to play. David is able to teach her in a way that appeals to her, and she loves it. He's creative and allows her to work on pieces that interest her, while teaching her what she needs to know. David even helps his students compose their own music if they are so inclined. My daughter also enjoys that very much." Rachel Y
"David taught our daughter both piano and guitar until she went to college. He is a fantastic teacher- fun, smart, patient and challenging. I myself have been taking lessons from him for the last four years, and look forward to his help, knowledge and encouragement every week." Carol S."David has been teaching piano to our son for some time. David has been patient, encouraged creativity, and spurred enthusiasm. Our son has learned a lot and developed significantly as a piano player. David doesn't necessarily follow orthodox approaches to teaching piano, but strives to find the best way to nurture his students' strengths and address their weaknesses. He keeps lessons entertaining and is as far from the stereotypical stern taskmaster piano teacher as you can get." Jeff S
"When I discovered David 4 years ago, I was the typical adult armed with 6 years of childhood piano lessons. My goal was to ditch written music and learn to improvise. David mainly teaches children, and when my friend said his son was learning jazz and the blues, I made the call. After several years of lessons, I have learned improvisation techniques, chord structure, and jazz music theory. All this learning has evolved in a non-stressful manner thanks to David's thoughtful teaching methods. My piano lessons are an ongoing experience in understanding music and playing for complete pleasure.” Marty L

"David taught piano to both of our sons for a combined total of over 20 years. He is a truly gifted and inspiring teacher. Our sons have very different personalities and he tailored his instruction accordingly, focusing on classical technique with one and improvisational jazz with the other. In this way, he enabled each child's musical talents to flourish and, more importantly, he instilled in each a love of music that will never be extinguished.” Deborah A.
